Solid & Day Dresses

Not every dress needs a pattern. This collection holds the reproduction pieces that work on colour and cut alone, and the ones plain enough to wear on a Tuesday without explaining yourself to anybody.

Here the cloth does the talking. Chiffon in a single shade, with a ruffled sleeve and a hem cut deliberately uneven. Velvet in black, heavier than everything around it, carrying through autumn and into the evening. A suspender dress fastened on pearl buttons. A fitted bodice above a full swing skirt in layers of tulle.

The eras sit closer together than elsewhere in the shop: fifties and sixties silhouettes side by side, and the difference shows up in the shoulder and the waist long before it shows up in the hem. Colours include black, green and white. Lengths run from above the knee to below it.

Every dress on this rail comes in S, M, L and XL, all six also in XXL and two in XXXL; there is no XS. Stretch varies from piece to piece — some have none, some a little, some more, and each product page names which. Every dress is a period-cut reproduction: a piece tagged 1960s follows a sixties silhouette and was not manufactured in that decade.
